Songas Limited is a limited liability registered company under the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania (“Songas”) with its principal office located in Dar es Salaam. Its shareholders include: Globeleq Tanzania Limited of Bermuda (14.8%), Globeleq Somanga Limited of Jersey (4.9%), Globeleq Holdings (Songas) Limited of Mauritius (34.4%), Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (28.6%), Tanzania Electric Supply Company (9.6%), and Tanzania Development Finance Company Limited (7.6%). Songas was established in 1995.
Songas was operational in 2001, as a Special Project Vehicle (SPV) with the primary purpose of building, owning and operating (BOO) the Songo Songo Gas-to-Electricity Project: the integrated project that includes five gas wells in the Songo Songo vicinities, the flow lines to the 2 x 35 MMscfd dew point control processing plant, the 12” x 25 km marine and 16” x 207 km onshore pipelines from Songo Songo Island to Ubungo in Dar es Salaam, and a 8” x 16 km spur line to Tanzania Portland Cement Company at Wazo Hill and Tegeta.
